How to stop a pornography addiction

The problem with this addiction is that it is very socially accepted. Since when, watching 2 people have sex, and you’re jerking off in front of them is normal?

We have to take a step back and realize we did not have screens until 50 years ago. Homo sapiens is 300,000 years old.

Most of the time, the actors are also very attractive (girls, mostly). The only way you could see a 10/10 girl like that naked and having sex, is if you were a 10/10 man (not necessarily looks).

What can you do to stop a pornography addiction?

You have to understand and constantly remind yourself of why you want to quit pornography.

How do you do that?

Understand

Read Dopamine Nation” by Dr. Anna Lembke . You can also watch her podcast with Andrew Huberman.

Another book that help me a lot was “Alcohol Explained” by William Porter. It covers alcohol addiction, but you will learn about every addiction.

Remind

After you read “Dopamine Nation”, you need something to keep reminding you about why you are doing this. This is absolutely crucial!

I personally watch one episode of Your Brain On Porn series on YouTube daily. It takes on average 6 minutes to watch one (or 3 minutes if you go at 2x speed). But you have to pay attention to it, not just listen to the audio.

It is a small price to pay (~5 minutes, depending on speed), for the HUGE life changing benefits of quitting pornography.

Benefits

I personally got a girlfriend within 2 months (haven’t had one for 2 years), started working out, cut out toxic friendships.

You will also notice that after 4–5 days of retaining, your anxiety will be reduced, and you will notice more aggression (your testosterone is high). Aggression raises testosterone, and testosterone raises aggression (healthy aggression – for example, you will be able to stand up for yourself and not let people walk all over you).

You will also notice that you will start to process trauma from the past. You will remember all the times people treated you like shit, and you will learn from it. You will love it! It’s time to grow a spine.

Keep in mind

If you have a night of heavy drinking (or not even heavy), your chances of relapsing grow exponentially.

Conclusion

This is a journey, not a destination. Your brain will take time to come back to normal. You will fail, until you get the proper knowledge.

The universal coin of the universe is knowledge.

I will soon create a detailed course for quitting pornography. Let me know in the comments if you are interested.

This was today’s “grow nugget”. 🙂
