Professionals vs amateurs in life

I was reading from “Atomic Habits” book, and there was a chapter about consistency.

How professionals do it regardless of how they feel. Everybody has bad days, when they feel like not doing the work that they want to do.

The difference is not that big.

Let’s say an amateur bodybuilder goes to the gym 4 times a week. He does not make all the gains that he can. Let’s say He trains biceps 2x a week with 4 sets each. He could train 3x a week with 5 sets. He gets 20% less gains at best, let’s say.

The professional goes 6 times a week, even if that means he is a little bit more tired. He makes sure he gets all the gains possible.

In the end, the 20% more, makes you a professional bodybuilder or not.

Also, for me quality matters so never trade quality for quantity.

Basketball scenario

Let’s say there is a basketball game. Let’s say 2 players play 1v1 and they play 10 games. One has only 5% better stats. By playing the game multiple times, who has better changes of winning? Who is more likely to win 6/10 games?

In the end, it did not matter that the loser won 5 games and he lost the last one. He won’t be rewarded. He will still be a loser. The difference is made at the edged.

Football scenario

In a football game it does not matter that you had more chances, you played better, and the score was 3-3 until 90 minutes when the opponent scored and you lost.

It did not matter that you lost the championship with a 1 point difference. You still are 2nd place.

Now imagine one of the players did not stay up late with his girlfriend and he went to sleep early, he was well rested and he played a little bit better. That little better helped the team score one goal in that match and that made they win the championship.

Conclusion

The difference is made at the top, at the last reps.
